Surface Molecular Patterning by Plasmon-Catalyzed Reactions

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on plasmonic substrates play a significant role applications of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). At the same time, localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) can be employed for broad range plasmon-supported chemical modifications. Here, micropatterning using derivatization SAMs gold nanosubstrates rewritable SERS-based security labels or as basis sensing arrays functionalized with biomolecules is demonstrated different plasmon-catalyzed reactions. The formation 4,4′-dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) from p-aminothiophenol (PATP) well p-nitrothiophenol (PNTP) and reduction PNTP to PATP are used change functionality substrate in specified positions. Employing LSPR, reactions started by illumination visible laser light at high intensity focal spot microscope objective yield microscopic patterns reaction product. obtained molecular erased other reactions, enabling strategies rewriting, encryption, stepwise functionalization.
